Review: Modern Warfare 2 for XBox 360

February 8th, 2010 No comments

Modern Warfare 2 is at its best when the war comes to US soil.

I have a bad habit of buying a video game, playing it a few times and then just letting it sit idle… to be played on those rare occasions where my brother and I feel an intense desire to snipe.  Our games of choice have tended to be the military based shooters, though the initial renditions of the Call of Duty family of games really lacked in on-site co-op gaming (AKA, I don’t have XBox Live).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 differed from its predecessors in that it was engineered with the co-op gamer in mind.  While I initially played this in full-on brother snipe mode, I just finished the single player campaign version and felt I ought to give it a simple review.

The Reality and Realism of Zombie Apocalypse

No word on whether the living dead will have the franchise in 2012.

No word on whether the living dead will have the franchise in 2012.

OK, I must admit that I have a completely immature interest in the genre of zombie entertainment.  I love the movies, the video games and even the literature.

Sure, I enjoyed Night of the Living Dead as a kid, but it wasn’t until the modern additions to the genre that I really started to get into it. Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later, in particular, opened my eyes to how intriguing the zombie (and zombie apocalypse) genre could be.  It wasn’t just the fast zombies, it’s the more evolved understanding of zombies.  Since then we’ve seen even more forays that challenged the genre, such as the recent low-budget UK film shot from the perspective of a zombie.

Well, despite the need to have some suspension of disbelief, there’s been some effort to actually look at the science of zombie apocalypses of late.

This post will examine some of the ways the zombie genre has turned more serious with looks at how new examinations review Historical Perspectives, Human Experience, Scientific Analysis and Finding Parallels to Actual Conditions.

Monday Funday: Play the HomeRun Drunk Walk Home Game

November 30th, 2009 No comments

Most Flash games aren’t much to write home about.  That said, occasionally a game is so simple it is genius.  When that game presents a identifiable scenario, it can become officially addictive.  This is one such game.  It is HomeRun: the Drunk Walk Home.

Use your mouse to go left or right to keep the guy upright.

The game apparently has audio, so I’m putting it after the jump.  Sorry about that. Read more…

Trailers: Zombie Games

Next week, Left 4 Dead 2 gets released by Valve. L4D was freaking awesome. This looks incredibly better. But there is a new player. On the Wii system we have Resident Evil the Darkside Chronicles. Their new, interactive trailer is not embeddable, but is very worth the click. Believe me.

So that might have to get on the Amazon buying queue. Anyway, here is the intro trailer that was leaked for L4D2.
