FollowFriday: The News on Twitter

August 6th, 2010

I’ve settled into a nice niche with respect to Twitter news.  Yes, you can get some breaking stories truly from the masses via Trending Topics, but I also rely on two specific sources for news updates.  One is for headlines and the other is for commentary.

Click on through to check em out.

@NYTimes

Say what you will about opinion page bias or the Jayson Blair fiasco, the New York Times is still the gold standard and the Grey Lady has struck a nice chord on Twitter with easy linking to important and varied topics.  The danger with so many breaking news feeds is that they can quickly overwhelm what you see with post bombing.  The Times posts several interesting stories without going overboard and burying other tweets you want to see.  As such, they’re part 1 of today’s Follow Friday.

@DCagle

The second item is in the tradition of former Times artist Thomas Nash.  I’m a big believer in what Boss Tweed said regarding the importance of cartoonists (and Nast in particular) regarding communicating ideas to the masses.  MSNBC’s Daryl Cagle has put together as good a compendium of political cartoons as you will find, from all spots in the political spectrum.  His Twitter feed is easy to navigate and use to stay on top of some of the best cartoons of the day.
