#NowPlaying – The Editors

April 12th, 2010 Comments off

I’ve popped The Editors to the top of my iPod playlists again this past week after burying them for a while.  Their sound is, not surprisingly, UK indie rock.  The below songs, and the album as a whole (The Back Room, from which Munich and All Sparks come), are awesome.  Give a listen.

Music: Jack Peñate – Tonight’s Today

December 7th, 2009 Comments off

Jack Peñate has been on my playlist a lot of late. Especially late at work. It’s great background music and definitely doesn’t take too much of my focus. I’ve linked some of his stuff before. Below is Tonight’s Today.

Music: Alexi Murdoch – Live Performances

November 30th, 2009 Comments off

My buddy turned me on to Alexi Murdoch way back when. It took a while to really appreciate how awesome he is. You’ve heard his music on TV a lot (most prominently, Orange Sky as the theme from that police show that got canned on NBC earlier in the year).

This is All My Days off his earlier short album (Four Songs). The new one (Time Without Consenquences) that he released this year is phenomenal as well. He doesn’t have any music videos, but does have a few Tubed non-official videos. I went with a live performance of All My Days.

Music: Jack Peñate – Pull My Heart Away

In the world of things I’m listening to now, below is the very cool music video for Jack Peñate‘s Pull My Heart Away.

It was shot in Jordan on Super 8 and works well with the song. Very cool.

Music: White Lies – Farewell to the Fairground

Love the bridge on this song. White Lies is, if you hadn’t been able to tell, one of my favorite bands. This is Farewell to the Fairground.

Music: Air Traffic – Come On

Probably my current favorite band, Air Traffic may currently be without a drummer, but they still rock in youtube perpetuity. Here’s their US album special track off of Fractured Life.

Music: White Lies – To Lose My Life Medley

November 13th, 2009 Comments off

Below linked is the medley music video from White Lies promoting their album To Lose My Life, which you can buy from Amazon here or on iTunes. Although my favorite band remains Air Traffic, WL is fast catching them.

They’ve been touring with Kings of Leon and are sort of a prepubescent arena rock band. I think if you mixed KOL with the Killers and through in a little Bowie you’d get White Lies. I’m dying to see them live but my tickets fell through when they were last in New York. Their entire album is fantastic and really flows through together.

The video below gives a great overview of their entire album and is chilling in a sort of Pink Floyd meets indie rock kind of way. The album itself is fantastic. I’m not sure I have any particular track that stands out, because it’s the type of album that flows together organically and really ought not be segmented (though a couple of tracks are on my iPod shuffle for working out).

The album qualifies as a must own.

Jazz @ Lincoln Center

November 12th, 2009 Comments off

On Monday, November 9th, I went with an alumni group to see the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Orchestra with David Liebman perform at Dizzy’s Coca Cola Club as a part of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The music they played was a great selection, which escapes me at the moment. The execution was good, not great. But considering that a third of the band was comprised of 17 and 18 year olds, it was rather remarkable.
